Launching Sapiens & Co, my marketing consultancy practice

Senior marketing leadership for founder-led and PE-backed businesses whose growth has outrun their marketing. It runs on Vector, a six-stage growth system.

Today I'm launching Sapiens & Co, my marketing consultancy practice. It offers fractional CMO and advisory support to founder-led and private equity-backed businesses whose growth has outrun their marketing.

Who it's for

Businesses with real commercial ambition and a marketing function that hasn't kept up. Often there's activity - campaigns running, an agency or two on the books - but no clear line from the marketing to revenue, profit and the value of the business. Sapiens & Co gives them senior marketing leadership without having to hire a full-time CMO first.

Why it exists

After 25 years running agencies and sitting on boards, I've seen more and more businesses where the brand undersells the business, the go-to-market is reactive and marketing and sales pull in different directions. I've sat in too many board meetings where a packed content calendar got applauded while the growth engine quietly stalled.

Sapiens & Co exists to build the commercial marketing structures that make growth repeatable. It's grounded in marketing science and behavioural science - how buyers actually choose, and what reliably grows brands - and it puts agentic AI to work inside that. The AI speeds things up. The judgement stays human, and senior.

How Vector drives growth

Vector is the growth system behind the practice. It has six stages, run as a loop rather than a line:

  1. Diagnose the market
  2. Decide the growth opportunity
  3. Set the strategy
  4. Memory and momentum
  5. Apply the messy middle
  6. Measure and learn

Each stage earns the right to the next, so nothing gets spent on channels or creative until the opportunity is agreed. What's learned at stage six feeds back into stage one, so the work improves rather than simply ending.

Vector runs on the Brand Code - brand guidelines evolved into a single, machine-readable source of truth for the business and its marketing, so everything produced stays on brief.

The structure holds for every client. The depth flexes: a smaller business with an obvious opportunity may settle the first two stages in a conversation, while a larger one needs weeks. There are two ways in - the Vector Diagnostic for established businesses, and Vector Launch for those at or before launch.
